Fifth episode, here we go! Armed with a cash injection, we had to judge as a jury instead of individually, plus the expert appraisals.
This week on Channel 7’s Instant hotel we went back and visited the ‘Sunny Coast Penthouse Pad’ – a beautiful apartment located in BUDDINA, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
Debbie: “I’ve put a lot of heart into this place”
Although this was true… Gene said, “Forget the rest, we will be the best”
Debbie & Justin, Mother and Son’s Penthouse Pad on Instant Hotel set us back $540 per night, with NO minimum stay anymore. There were 4 bedroom, 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs with a spa bath, which sleeps a total of 8 people.
Gene: “There place has to be exceptional, it’s got to be amazing otherwise my god, look out!”
We had to go head-to-head with the Penthouse Pad to our Instant Hotel, The Misty Mountains Homestead.
Leah: “How can Debbie and Justin go against a Rainforest Retreat?”
It’s was a huge contrast in location especially to compete against.
Gene: “What have Debbie and Justin done to these four white walls.”
Sharon: “Blue, they brought the outside in, I was expecting that.”
Razz: “Thank god for that, it looked fantastic, it totally changed the concept of the room. If we could have fitted the dining room table in our suitcase we would have taken it home. It was definitely more flowing.”
Leah: “New bedding and nice new towels.”
Gene and Sharon: “Big competition” was definitely what we were thinking!
Going to an aquarium was exciting for everyone else…
Mark: “The seals were pretty well behaved except for braking wind.”
I had to ask everyone what they thought… “It doesn’t represent the Sunshine Coast does it?”
People thought we were being wet blankets, but we were just stating, “It’s a novelty, but the activity was very touristy and something you can do at an aquarium in the world.”
After all we had to correct Jay and Leah to let them know that there are seals in Melbourne at their aquarium and also on Phillip Island in their natural habitat…
Gene and Sharon, “Perhaps the experience was great, it was amazing for the rest of the guys, but we can to swim with the marine life every day and it’s not man-made. It’s true nature. It’s like comparing Disneyland vs. reality.”
After a day of fish seal breath, we went back to Upgraded Penthouse Pad to discuss the final ratings of Debbie & Justin’s Instant Hotel:
Sharon: “Getting ready for the scoring, I couldn’t wait to get into it to find out what everyone was thinking.”
Gene didn’t think there was much to talk about after all, “it’s a concrete jungle, it’s not a real jungle.”
The location and activities got a bit heated between myself and Gene.
I thought, “That night couldn’t be the end of the scoring… I still had some unfinished business.”
Once we rediscussed the topic in the morning all opinions were heard and everything was agreed upon.
Gene: “Sharon got what she wanted, Sharon always gets want she wants in the end.”
Jury Comments:
Jay and Leah: “Debbie and Justin we are beyond impressed by your improvements you have taken everything we have said on board and we really felt at home.”
Razz and Mark: “Thank you for putting in so much effort into transforming your home to a place the we would want to come and stay at, we wish you all the best.”
Gene and Sharon: “Debbie and Justin congratulations on all your beautiful changes, you have done an amazing job in a short amount of time. Last time the sausage dogs were like 101 Dalmatians, good to see them replaced with some style. We want to compete with the best and you have certainly raised the bar, now we have to step up to it.”
Expert Judges:
Juliet Ashworth: “Luxury home-stay rather than someone’s apartment. I think they should be very proud of what they have done.”
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen: “Definitely a much stronger contender. By taking away the minimum night stay and not increasing the price…This could be a cash flow problem for them later on”

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen: 8/10
